MOTION GRAPHICS

Borderline

Typography Animation

For my motion typography edit, I chose to do the song, “Borderline” by Tame Impala. I wanted to choose a song that included a great variety of beats that I could work with. When working on my edit, I wanted the focus to be on the movement of the words rather than on external visuals. Because of this, I chose black and white colors with an occasional chromatic variance. I implemented different velocities, placements, and sizes into my type in order to create an interesting composition throughout the entire duration of the video. The transitions in my video were my main focus, and I made sure that the entrance and exit of each word was intentional and reflected the action of the word rather than just the word itself.

Together

Independent Study

I was granted the opportunity to be able to work on a composition animation for an independent study. The animation was to serve as an introduction to an hour and a half long concert that would be played immediately after. The purpose of the animation was to encompass the idea of “togetherness”, which is the main theme of the production. The video included a variation of themes and symbols that were displayed in an abstract way in order to convey the deeper message within the performance. Certain shapes such as a hexagon and circles were a common focus throughout the video in order to display movement and variety for the duration of the composition. Speed and repetition were also used to match the energy of the music with the display of shapes to help the audience gather an idea of what to expect from the concert that followed.

Maze Runner

Movie Title Sequence

This project includes an alternative opening title sequence for the movie, “The Maze Runner”. I wanted the tone of the opening to reflect the atmosphere of the movie which is very dark and mysterious. I used a variety of close-up shots of old, dark, and rusting materials found outside in order to capture a grunge aesthetic for the movie. I wanted to incorporate some light illustrations and shapes into my video by creating silhouettes of the characters that would later reveal the full characters themselves. I also used a wide variety of presets and plug-ins to create a multitude of effects throughout the entire video. Since the original movie does not have an opening credit scene, I wanted to create an edit that felt like it fit right into the film.
